You are supposed to set the shutter speed after cocking the camera. When you cock it, the shutter speed dial will rotate along with the cocking action. Only then should it be pointing to the correct shutter speed. Otherwise in the uncocked position it will indeed point to something else that may be at a 45 degree angle. If this is how you are already checking, then please disregard this possible reason for misalignment. The selected speed, that should be aligned with the little arrow engraved on the accessory shoe, is about 45 degrees off in the counter-clockwise direction. So, for instance, if I select 1000, the arrow points to 200. To adjust this, is it simply a matter of loosening the three screws on the dial, turning the dial to its correct position and then tightening the screws again? TIA for any avice.
