Also you can get a slight speed increase with the added compensation. So it is common to dilute as much as you can until grain finally becomes a problem or there is a speed loss perhaps - or irregular development even. Streaking. On some films: T Max 100 and Delta 3200 you just need more juice (developer). So you may have to dilute less or develop one or two rolls in a liter tank. I do OK with not using T-Max 100 but i use 120 Delta 3200 with my Rolleiflex and i soup it 1:1 and the world does not seem to end. Someday I'll blow one up 20x24 and regret it. I'll want a sharper grain. If you wanna listen to me, olivier then start at 1:3. Check the new Film developing Cookbook By Anchell Troop as they much more to say about this particlual dilution with Xtol. Lots of good things. On and on. I started at 1:2 because i was to chicken. But i would think it's time to just start experimenting yourself and see what you can come up with. You cant know everything ahead of time!
