The virus that is in circulation right now (klez.w32) sends email with a forged sender name. The one thing that you can be certain of is that the virus was not sent to you by the person who claims to be the sendeer.

You can look at the detail headers and see what path the thing took to reach you. And some mailclient/server combinations will give you the "envelope mailbox" that was actually used to send it.
