Subject: [Leica] M7 problems

Dear Fellow Lugnuts,

Leave it to me to have at least some difficulties with my new M7. I really love this camera. Three rolls of transparency film later, the exposures have been spot on except for one overexposure. That's the great news.

Problem 1: the bottom LED in the exposure display won't stop blinking unless I turn the compensation dail on the back of the camera to one notch underexposure. Placing the compensation dial on zero turns the blinking dot back on. And yes I have film in the camera.

Problem 2: the leatherette covering of the camera extends down just a bit too far in the front under the lens mount causing it to buckle up with the new Leica winder attached. It's fine with the standard bottom plate.

I learned from Leica USA that they are not set up to repair the new M7 camera nor do they have any of the M7 leatherette covering. They haven't been trained yet. They did not offer to swap out a new one so I'm waiting for Tamarkin to send me a replacement. I guess the teething stage will continue for a bit longer. Leica USA told me they had no cameras to swap out the problem one. Interesting way to care for a member of their professional photo section.

I'll keep you posted. I have never been more satisfied with this camera. I'd rather replace one of my M6 bodies with another M7 but I'm going to wait until this issue is cleared up.

Happy shooting,

Richard
