Without any agreement, the author retains copyright of the individual message and somebody else could have a copyright on the collection. If the list provider is providing a service, I see nothing wrong with them trying to recover expenses and make a profit from their services. They're giving list subscribers something. In return, the posters may be giving the company back something...such as an unlimited license to use anything the subscriber posts. Read the sign up agreements carefully. :) If you're concerned, don't use those lists. I wouldn't be surprised to see Yahoo start to shift toward more fee-based services. Interestingly enough, Google is about to pass Yahoo in terms of search engine saturation. Measured by how many people arrive at various sites through all the search engines.
