For week 15, I have three pictures from Alsace. It is my favourite region of France, both because it is beautiful but mostly because I love the food there which combines French quality and German quantity. So when some Belgian friends were passing through Alsace on their way south, I immediately took it as an excuse to meet up with them in the lovely town of Riquewihr. I have been to Riquewihr many times, but only on this trip did I realise that there is a public road in the vineyards overlooking the town, from which one has views like this: http://www.wajsman.com/2002_15.jpg (Fuji GSW690III, Provia 100F) I took my friends to taste and buy wine at my favourite producer in the area, Bernard Schwach in the neighbouring town of Ribeauvillé: http://www.wajsman.com/2002_15alt1.jpg (M3, 35mm Summilux, Ilford Delta 400) Later, while walking along the main street of Riquewihr (called Rue du Général de Gaulle, as is the case in 90% of small towns in France), I spotted this kitty in a window: http://www.wajsman.com/2002_15alt2.jpg (M3, 50mm Summilux, Delta 400) The cakes inside the shop are a local specialy called Kugelkopf. As is obvious from this and the name of the town, there is a strong German influence in Alsace, not surprising given how the border has moved back and forth. The complete PAW index is at: http://www.wajsman.com/indexpaw2002.htm and comments/critique are welcome and appreciated as always.
