You know, there is something elegant about a lens which uses only four glass elements to achieve comparable performance of other lenses which need five or six pieces of glass to get the job done. That seems to be the case with the CV 50/3.5 Heliar collapsible. A simple design, few air:glass surfaces to cause diffraction, and excellent results. Whenever somebody touts a new zoom lens and I see something like "16 elements in 11 groups", I wonder about the quality of light after being bent by so many different mediums.
