More precisely they failed to give a recipe that other people could follow
to reliably repeat it. Quite fortunate since the blast of neutrons which
would have accompanied the amount of fusion they claimed to observe would
have cooked them both. Others have claimed to have repeated their results,
but so have people using ordinary water in place of deuterium (a control
experiment F&P failed to do) which rather undermines the whole claim.

Fleischmann/Pons cold fusion has entered the realms of Pariah science, but
there is an Italian researcher who has got some slightly more convincing
results which are much closer to theh scientific mainstream.
