If you are looking for a film scanner  in the $400 range then the Minolta or
Canoscan 2700 will do an adequate job.  Also look into refurbished Nikon
LS-30 or new old stock.  If your budget will go into the $800 range the
Canon 4000 would be the ticket.

Really, if your output will be limited to 3X4 then anything just about will
work.  Instead of putting money into a so-so scanner why not pay a local one
hour place to scan the negatives that you want prints of.  They will charge
something around $6 for a roll to put it on a CD.
