Here's more food for thought: a decade ago the American Bar Association
engaged the Peter Hart Organization to run a survey on public opinion about
the legal profession. Some results were unsurprising: lawyers were way down
the list of occupations. Several were startling of which this was perhaps
the
most: over 70% of the respondents amswered "but my lawyer is terrific." That
should tell us something.

Unfortunately, Seth, it tells us nothing. Because it's right in line with
surveys of most 'despised' professions. Take Congress, for example...Most
people think all politicians are lying pond scum - with the exception of
their local Congressperson - assuming they know who their local
Congressperson is. ;-)

The lesson:

If someone helps you personally, they are noble and good - even if what they
have done for you is murder your spouse for $50.
