This is not necessarily the case. Most of my stock images are sold for what would be equal to shoot them on assignment. A lot has to do with exclusivity of the image also. If it is going to take a couple of thousand dollars to go on a shoot then it MAY be viable to buy stock DEPENDING on the use. I have seen stock fees in excess of $10,000.00 due to the nature of the use of the image. We are not talking about the generic material of royalty free discs. >I think the last phrase in the previous sentence is the key. People are >willing to pay to have their problems solved. Life is in the things that bring ENJOYMENT and pleasure. Typical human beings find that in ART!! ... be is visual art, music, performing art or even is search of the elusive perfect golf swing. Art is not problem solving. Nothing as crude as simple commerce. It is not a commodity but a representation and reflection on our society and culture at a given time. Before "Historians" (some of my best friends are historians :^) and modern documentary process, art was the document of culture. What we know about many cultures is through is art. >Luckily, the 2nd law of thermodynamics guarantees that there will always be >problems to solve. :) ....sometimes they can't or are not worth solving.
