Subject: [Leica] touched an m7 today

i was just at bergen county camera picking up some dektol and the owner
said "hey rei, have you seen the m7? check it out!"

i was pleasantly surprised. i don't know if i'll ever get one, but
those guys did it right. it really feels and handles like a leica
in every day, including shutter release and the sound and feel of the
shutter itself. very commendable. it also has a much-needed shutter
release lock. the new stuff, like the shutter speeds readouts, are
beautifully integrated into the finder. as a classic user, the dial
feels big, and interestingly rotates forever. there's a clever way
to adjust the film ASA dial in back to +/-2 stops compensation.

i've owned a minolta CLE for over 15 years (before my m6's), and despite
the CLE's excellent qualities and features, it absolutely does not handle
or sound like a leica. the m7 not like that at all. it's a leica.
