I agree fully about buying through a dealer when possible -- but the nearest full-service Zeiss dealers are in the Washington or Charlotte areas, four hours from me, as is also the case with Leica. And the difference in price wasn't a slight difference -- it was more than a third. Zeiss now provides for on-line registration, incidentally. Quite handy.
