It has been discontinued, and those reserves may have dried up. Have you looked at Pentax's entry level non-autofocus SLR? It is the heir to the K1000, and I have heard good things about it. It is the Pentax ZX-M 35mm SLR Manual Focus Camera Kit with Pentax 50mm f/2.0 Lens, and it's only about $200 new from a NYC store. Most of us baby boomers learned on this sort of camera, and of course we would not suggest that anyone learn on anything else lest they be snapshooters instead of real photographers. My opinion.
