Anyone who is having flare problems might consider putting a piece of J&J
white micropore (I believe that's the type anyway) bandage tape over the
rangefinder light collection window. It virtually eliminates flare and
barely reduces brightness at all.

(Who has NOT run any bench tests on this ugly fix of a long-standing defect
in a $1900 camera body, and has no connection, past or present, to J&J.)

The Shade does cut the flare at the performance penalty of 30% of the light.

You are darker at all times by about 1 stop in the VF........is this a good
tradeoff?

I tried it and found the loss to be unacceptable in lower light conditions,
where you need all the light you can get....
