I'm not a fan of auto anything (photographically). Exception - I do love ttl on the rare occasions that I use the SF20 - but always rely first on the manual read of the environment, adding just a bit of flash for fill or motion stopping ability. One of the many reasons I love the M6 and R8 on manual is because I very quickly developed an intuitive sense of exposure "compensation" for verying conditions requiring under or over exposure - deviating from what the meter would advise. Especially the R8 - with its fractional steps reading in the viewfinder. Marvelous! I'd love to see that Manual R8 LED display in the M, and while I'm at it - the R8 manual strobe metering as well.
