The majority of digital cameras are priced well below that. Of course
there
is the Nikon D1 etc., but now we are talking really big bucks.

Yes, we're talking really big bucks - for the closest one can come in
digital to Leica quality in film. And I can't believe that if someone would
actually pay 4-500 extra for a couple of brush loads of black paint, they'd
complain about $400 for having some early 1970s features added to their 1954
camera.;-)
