Yes, the joke was silly and, a bit tasteless, and there were any number of analogies that could have been used without being silly or offensive. But the post came from someone who is 72-years-old, and from everything I've seen and heard over several years - including personally spending time with him - is one of the kindest, most well-meaning people on this list. Given the real nastiness that at times flies back and forth here - ad hominum attacks, etc. - I'd say the "offense" in question is pretty mild, and, as I said, if anyone takes personal offense, they can certainly speak up - perhaps off-list directly to the poster. And, yes, as you noted, it is interesting how well versed some people are on the subject. Although I'm more intrigued by certain people getting picking up the joke and beating it to death, than I am by the original "joke." B. Not to mention sexist and embarassing. Since this is not an 'old-boys' club and women do read the posts I think it was inappropriate. John Fulton Fort Worth - -- >> John, I think it's helpful to see how many men on the LUG are obviously well versed in the ways of hookers. Leads me to believe that in addition to spending their money on Leica's they're accessorizing their sexual lives with paid sex (not that I have a problem with paid sex.) It's a matter of perspective I suppose. If using an analogy, rather than saying.... "Some switch gear as fast as a hooker changing pants on a Saturday night" I might be more apt to suggest: "Some switch gear as much as baseball players fondle their balls while on the baseball field...." or perhaps "Some switch gear as fast as Dick Cheney is shredding his files on Enron," or perhaps "Some switch gear as fast as the Bush administration is apt to keep the Taliban and Al Queda in the news," or maybe, "Some switch gear as fast as a middle aged man loses his hair on his head but gains weight on his waist," or perhaps "Some switch gear as fast as a man (when confronted) denies to his wife that he's been getting blown by a hooker." - -kim - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
