My thoughts are that the 35mm format was intended to be used as a hand-held
camera.  If one is going to the trouble to use a tripod, a larger camera is
only a little more trouble giving much better results.  There are
exceptions, of course, most notably long lenses, but I still use them
hand-held where possible.
