Subject: [Leica] leica repair nightmare

about a year ago i banged my cos-vogt 35 1.7 and knocked the bottom plate
loose. this plate, i discovered, is used to focus the lens. so, the lens no
longer focused properly. finally, i got tired of using the jupiter again, so
i took the cos-vogt to the local repair shoppe and asked if they could
re-adjust the focus. two days later they call and ask if i can bring my
camera in so that they can measure the distance to the focal plane while
they're adjusting the film. so i drop off one of my leicas for them to use.
two weeks later, i get an invoice in the mail for $400 (more than i paid for
the lens). and on the invoice it says "adjust shutter mechanism" -- and my
35mm lens does not, as far as i know, have a "shutter mechanism" of any
type. so i call the store and say "what the hell is going on?" they type up
my invoice number and say "the shutter mech needed adjusting" i said "my
lens doesn't have a shutter". he says "this is for a leica m3." i said "my
leica m3 was not broken. my leica m3 was working perfectly. it was the lens
that was not working." this guy didn't have any idea what i was talking
about. he said he'd look around for the lens and call me back. i figured
this wasn't the place for me to get anything fixed so i say "look, you go
ahead and look for the lens, i'm coming by to get my camera." he says "well,
i think ... i think your camera is in germany."
