How about - and this is a serious response - using those heavy boot socks -
for more padding. And I would think cotton washed several times...But
someone else will undoubtedly have another suggestion -

This is a serious question, I'm not being flippant.

Someone a few days ago suggested putting lenses in socks when carrying them
around in a bag - this seems a very good (and cheap!) idea. What would be
the best material, wool, synthetic or cotton. What I'm really asking is
would one be more abrasive than the others, which would have the fewest
loose fibres? As I say I am being serious.
