Bob,
You might consider the inexpensive Canon AS 1 - it is water proof to about 
15 meters and has a very good 32mm/3.5 lens. I use it sailing and just 
bring it home and wash it off. I couldn't bring myself to take my Leicas 
out on a little sail boat in Hong Kong harbour.
