[Leica] How to tell rangefinder separation?

Hi,

I've been reading the thread about durability of the various Ms, especially
now that a couple of people are mentioning separation.

My M3 recently went in for CLA, at Leica.  The report I received back with
the camera says it shows some rangefinder separation.  Can anyone tell me
how to see that for myself, and what effect that has on the camera's
operation?  No cure?
