Four new models have unmistakable Leica faces featuring special DC VARIO-SUMMICRON and DC VARIO-ELMARIT permanently mounted lenses on Panasonic 'Lumix' branded bodies. Prices range from $500 to $900 with early spring 2002 availability. Most sophisticated is model LC5 which reminds me of a Contax G. Its Summicron 7 - 21 (2.0 - 2.5) lens has 33 to100 35mm equivalency. Panasonic says pixel size is 3.25u on the 4M CCD sensor. In burst mode the LC5 captures eight frames at five fps. Switchable manual control is prominently featured: focus, exposure, ISO sensitivity. It has rechargeable lithium battery, hot shoe for auxiliary flash, 32 MB SD memory card. First impression? Comfortable handling with better VF than such peers as Epson 3100 etc. Less expensive than Minilux and has Summicron lens!
