As someone quickly pushing old-fartdom (I'm 59), I refuse to go quietly into the night or anywhere else. In fact, I plan to spend December 23, 2012 (the end of the current Mayan epoch and beginning of the next - I'll be 70 then) on top of a pyramid in Uaxactun, Guatemala... Uaxactun is a beautiful Mayan site which has so far been uncluttered and undiscovered by tourists. So, on that auspicious occasion, I intend to be at Uaxactun starting from the Winter Solstice. I was there this year for the summer solstice and it was spectacular. Uaxactun has the oldest astronomical complex in the Mayan world, the E-Group, probably built initially around 100BCE, and then rebuilt several times, as the Maya were wont to do. The E-group is explicitly set up for viewing the equinoxes and solstices, and unlike Chichen Itza and Tikal, my travel companion and I were the only ones there for the summer solstice. Anyway, as long as I can carry around a Leica or two with a 28 summicron, I'll be out snapping and enjoying the things others have built. Meantime, I'll continue to enjoy all manners of things like sex, opera, archaeology, Leicas, Leicas and Leicas. By the way, my kids (15 and 17) claim that I've been an old fart for years already. Shows what they know... Cheers, Brian - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
