Those you paid USD 15k went for a relatively rare collectors' item and
won't regret the purchase in case there is cheaper successor. It was a
"must have" for them. E.g. the first 1.4/35 aspherical is still
commanding high prices, despite the cheaper, and easily available
1.4/35 asph.

Those who paid the list price of the old 2.8/35-70, eventually plus a
10% or 20% premium, to get a user lens will be disappointed, of course.
But they could still replace old by new, even with a moderate profit.
