The Kardan is a monorail, using a front and rear standard. Example is the Sinar, or ARCA Swiss. The TechniKardan is the Kardan on a collapsible monorail. No equivalent. The Technika comes or came in sizes from 2x3 to 8x10 inches, maybe bigger. The Kardan somes in 4x5 to 8x10.... maybe bigger and smaller. The TechniKardan comes in only 2x3 or 4x5 sizes. The Technika is for Press or studio, with more limited movements. Movements are not geared. You CAN use it with a RF and hold the camera in the style of WeeGee. The Kardan are traditional studio cameras, with more movements than a snake in heat. Most movements ( depending on precise model and age) have vernier ( geared) adjustment. You would need to be Superman to hand hold the top end Master GTL 17 pound 4x5 camera, and Superman's stronger brother to hold up the 30 pound 8x10 camera. The TechniKardan has almost the same movements as the Kardan, but the movements are not geared. Weight, as Jim Brick noted, is about 6 pounds. If you are considering a new view camera, like the Ebony, look at the Walker Titan..... it is weatherproof...... Plastic body with synthetic bellows and stainless metalwork. Great for that English damp weather....... Frank Filippone red735i@earthlink.net - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
