Contax has been offering such a model since 1994: the RX.  I'd prefer
this capability to "full-fleged AF" because it's compatible with
existing lenses.  Just look at the lenses of the Contax N1 - big in
size and small in speed.

Except feet-dragging, I see no valid reason why Leica is so
dismissive.  After all, the technology is a lot less
innovative/eccentric/you-name-it than the shape of the R8.
