I agree with Mark.  I think the Elmarit-M (bought used) is the way to go.  
I'd budget $800, which is what I paid for mine.

I had the 90/2 Apo-Summicron for a while.  I sold it because it was too 
heavy for my shooting style.  I'll probably regret it, but it's gone, and I 
use the 90/2.8 a lot more.  The previous non-Apo 90/2 is even heavier than 
the current Apo, I think.  I'd evaluate your shooting style and appetite for 
heavy lenses before buying a 90/2.

I also had the thin Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8, which I really did not like (many 
people love this lens, but my images were not to my liking).

The Elmarit-M's are pretty easy to get these days as many people are 
hankering for the 90/2 Apo.  And most can't afford or don't want to keep 
both.

You could post a WTB ad on the LUG and LEG (on www.topica.com) for the 
90/2.8 Elmarit-M and see where that gets you.
