Damn you're a fine bunch of photographers from what we've seen on the first go around... What one might call a "blinding experience of surprisingly excellent photography." Well done on the first years' submissions and I'll bet a few shillings, a year from now the quality will reach even higher. This will not be an easy judging no matter how many previous judging situations one has been involved in. The picture standards set here are very high and from previous experience it will be a tough call getting it down to 50, let alone 30, which at the moment appears an impossibility. But this is the time when the knit picking elements sort out the very best from the "just missed it because... the lines weren't straight!" And some of you may think that's hardly fair to drop a picture because the cropping wasn't correct, however, that's just the tiny little nuances that make or break a winning photograph! There isn't any, "that isn't fair" excuses over knit picking things when you have the high standards involved in this submission. Having been involved in judging national and international professional photography I can assure you, the challenge before the judges is formidable at best due to the quality before us. I'd like to add that there are professionals who'd kill to have the eye many in this group are blessed with. The challenge now is.... make next years submission stronger, better, and more difficult for the judges, as there can be no lessening of effort to keep the obvious high standards set this year. A difficult task lies ahead of us in this first year of judging and I can only say I'm proud to be part of such a wonderful group of photographers. If everyone tries to raise the bar of quality a smidgen during the next 12 months, there isn't any doubt in my mind we'll set a standard of photography far better than ever imagined was possible by an internet group of rag-a-tag photographers. Good on all of you, keep it up gang! :-) ted Ted Grant Photography Limited www.islandnet.com/~tedgrant - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
