Hi Tom & Simon,
Your posts made me get off my butt to check the newly arrived 80-200 in
relation to your observations.  And I'd like to report mine operates as
smooth as a baby's bottom when racking the lens from end to end with
absolutely no effect as you both describe.

Nor do I re-call any such effect on the previously destroyed 80-200!
