Don,

that's only true for the older versions of the Leitz/Leica bellows.
Nowadays they sell a bellows for the R-Leicas manufactured by Novoflex (and
patended).
This bellows allows open aperture focusing like the lens direct coupled to
the body.
The bellows distributed under the Novoflex brand is a lot cheaper while
technically identical.
