The emission of energy from CD players and mobile phones is minimal in comparison to the two-way radio used on the flight deck, let alone lightning or electro-static discharges. I also hardly believe that these "digital" emissions are more harmful than those from an analog walkman. Strange enough, laptops are allowed during flight, but apparently not the usually built in CD players. I however would feel disturbed by other passengers listening to open headphones or talking loud on their mobile phones. Regarding carry-on luggage baggage I used to break the rules even in the past, since my backpack with laptop and (hobby-) camera gear usually is way beyond 8 or 10kg. My company cannot afford to pay business class and the 20 to 25kg limit for check-in baggage is a little bit mean for longer trips.
