I agree.  However, I have discovered my 2 year old PhotoSmart is
beginning to have banding problems that I cannot overcome, so longevity
does not appear to be one of the strong points of this model.

I find the Photosmart good for color negatives and rarely adequate for
slides, which require a scanner with greater d-max.
