One time I had to go to a jeweler to remove the battery cover from my M6. They couldn't even do it with their special tools. I finally got it off myself, but I scratched it up badly. During a Leica field day the rep from NJ saw it. She said she'd send me another. I didn't expect she'd follow through, but she did. two weeks later a new one arrived. That made me even more committed to Leica, if that were possible. I still used the old cover for a while. However, I was afraid to tighten it down too tightly. As luck would have it, it worked loose and eventually fell out so I lost it. Now I'm using the new one. I'm afraid to tighten it down too tightly or to leave it too loose. I chose loose and check it regularly. This all happened several years ago and the cover has worked loose a few times, but I've always noticed it. A slotted cover would solve all my problems. I have a second M6. I've never had a problem with the cover being too difficult to remove or working it's way loose on that one. Seems to only be an issue with one. I have them on my M6's. They sure make loosening and tightening the cover a piece of cake. And with no damage. Call Leica parts. They have them in stock.
