Someone please tell me I have not just made a REALLY expensive mistake. 3 weeks ago I purchased a new R6.2. Something I've wanted for a long time and finally I had the money. I put my first few rolls of film through the camera and each one came back with a scratch running the entire length. I naturally assumed this was the processing lab, however after trying another processor and seeing the same scratch I had what I can only be described as a horrible sinking feeling, a fit of swearing, followed by anger, plus a host of other negative feelings. The camera was scratching my film. What a Leica, brand new, not quite right!!!! I put through several additional films and opened the back to locate the source of the problem. It turns out that the pressure plate in the camera back was scoring the film near the take up spool. I checked the pressure plate very carefully, looking for any grit, high spots etc, and I could not see a thing. Perhaps a very small high spot was in fact the cause, but I could not see it, there is however no doubt that the back was scratching film. I must admit to a great deal of disappointment to receiving a defective camera, however I must say that Leica UK were exemplary in their handling of the situation. Within ten minutes of my griping to the UK Sales Manager, he called back and said I could pick up a new body at my local dealer. Anyone had a similar experience? Are R6.2 faults common? I have not picked up the replacement body yet but perhaps I should just ask for my money back. By the way this is the first time I've used Leica kit and the results are just superb, apart from the scratch I have running through every shot, Cheers, Simon - --- Simon Hollington Voice: +44 (0)131 248 9530 Lucent Technologies Fax : +44 (0)131 248 9501 Edinburgh Email: sh20@lucent.com - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
