Serial numbers are just a guide and a low serial number does not mean that it is one of the first cameras made. There have been many instances of new cameras with the latest circuitry having extremely early numbers. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT unless you are buying a used camera that was originally sold way back then. The R8 comes with a five year warranty and Leica has been excellent in taking care of problems.
