Alan, what would YOU suggest we do?

Again, Alan, how does one "solve the root problem"?

You expect me to give aid, or sit down and have tea with some group of thugs
that just blew up my friends and their family?  You are joking, right?

A VERY strong military, and ongoing military, response is the only answer I
see.
