So are the Billinghams.

I don't know about the price differences between a Lowepro and the
Billinghams, but I don't recall such a great difference between the prices -
at least here in Paris. Choosing a bag is a very personal matter, it all
depends on how much you want to put in the bag, how the bag feels on your
shoulder (or on your back), how fast you can access your gear and, last but
not least, how safe your equipment is inside that bag. I have/had dozens of
bags and backpacks for carrying around my equipment, I still haven't found
the perfect one. I almost always eliminate all exterior signs from the bags,
that could give away the content (no, I don't use black tape on my
Leicas:-). My favorite bag right now is the M - Classics. Really nice. The
only bag that got stolen was a 20$ US Army bag that contained a C***n plus
some lenses, probably by someone who didn't know there was a camera inside.

As to the holes and the ripped leather straps on the Billingham... this
happened at the "Assal lake" in Djibouti. There is more salt in that lake
than in the dead sea, anyway the salt somehow made the leather cardboard
like and at the end of the trip I broke the straps. My boots also got a real
salt attack...
