This issue is not hard to grasp: 99.999% of journalistic work is done with 35mm. That's what I do. Tom and Tina both shoot journalistic and it should be absolutely no surprise that they shoot 35mm. No one expects a journalist to march into the field with a Mamiya RZ. But we're not talking about specific use applications. We're talking about characteristics of different formats. Yes, MF yields images in a way more suitable for some presentations. The results will generally be smoother, sharpner, more even-toned than 35mm. Why? Bigger negative. As for digital taking over, another surprise: it's already happened. the only people NOT shooting digital journalism are some indies, people working on personal projects, people who can actually make a living shooting b/w (which is very few people indeed), etc., etc.. Your average Reuters/AP guy shooting at Wimbledon -- or in Gaza -- is more likely than not shooting digital these days. Why? Rules of the marketplace. As for myself, no, I'm not shooting digital. But, if you doubt me, pick up the phone and contact, oh, a pro rep for Kodak or Fuji or Canon or Nikon in your area. My 35mm photos have been made into many posters and covers. I've worked with large format, but it's certainly not practical for the photography I do. I'll stick with 35mm until digital takes over.
