Mardi Gras Indians from the Geronimo Hunters Tribe came to town this week
and showed us some of their dancing. and costumes at the
Natchitoches/Northwestern Folklife Festival. This annual affair takes place
inside in air conditioned comfort.

Good thing, because the heat index outside was hitting 105 F. Besides the
Mardi Gras Indians there was lots of music, crafts, and since this is
Louisiana, Food.

I hope to get some more stuff scanned for you tomorrow, but until then,
here's my Picture a Week and alternate. I caught both men during their
dance, and almost got run down both times. They're serious about their
dancing! The costumes take up to a year to make with intricate beadwork
and feather work.

If you want more details on the Mardi Gras Indians, (most are African
American) run a search on google. There are several good websites that show
this side of Mardi Gras.
