Peter,

I think Mark is concerned with both. If he didn't care about the subjects
at hand, he wouldn't contribute as much as he does to this list, and if he
care about the identity of his interlocutors, he wouldn't make a point of
asking for their name.

It's more or less common practice that folks sign their posts with a name.
It helps "humanize" the LUG (as if such a thing were possible with this
pack of camera-toting animals).
