Well, not so much "really crappy" as "just plain poor".  The later ones
(1984 and after) seem the most consistent in quality.  I have done
extensive comparisons between my 1.5/50 Jupiter-3 and my 1.4/50 Summilux
and they are almost on par, whether wide-open or stopped-down.  The
Jupiter-3, of course, is a 1931 design, the Summilux a 1961 design, so it
should do a bit better ...

I'd send this one of yours back and get another.
