Perhaps this sounds naïve, but how does registering lost equipment help to get
it back?  People who are willing to buy stolen equipment aren't likely to check
the serial numbers on it, anyway.  I understand that some Leica dealers will not
accept equipment for repair without clear proof of purchase (?), but since
Leicas don't normally require repair for decades at a time, how much can that
help?
