Assuming that you can't get the latest 180mm f2 or f2.8, don't even consider
getting anything other that the old Midlands f3.4 APO.  The old, and
original, APO is one of the finest Leica lenses ever made.  The only
drawback is that is does not focus as closely as some of the lesser designs.
Forget the 2x converter, get a 400mm f6.8 instead.  The old 400 prime
achromat is also a great lens.  Ask Doug Herr.
