Subject: RE: [Leica] 35mm R Lens recommendation

I once read that the 35/2-R was designed with emphasis on contrast over
resolution. I don't know if that's the case, but it sounded interesting. I
have a late 35/2-R and it's a great lens. It's fantastic paired with
Kodachrome -- or any b/w film.

I'm sure the 35/1.4-R performs just as well. Never have used one, but I've
handled one. It's a bit larger than the Summicron. I'm not as much in favor
of fast f1.4 lenses for the R system. First, there's a penalty in size and
weight (moreso than faster M lenses). Secondly, I don't shoot as much in
low light with the R. When I do I often use artificial light. So the max
aperture isn't of great value in that respect. It does make for a brighter
viewfinder and easier focusing, though.

Can't go wrong with either lens, but I went for the Summicron for the
preceeding reasons.
