That depends on your subject matter.  When working in an environment where 
there is rapid action all around, 1/250th sec. is often a minimum for 
sharpness, while high sun and baseball caps make fill flash necessary.  Under 
those conditions you can't assume you'll have the time to change film and 
make all equipment adjustments  necessary when following procedures as 
described above.

Anticipate what you may need, carry as little as possible.
Use what you have as best you can.  
Don't make yourself crazy.
