hi all,
> ah...by the way, he used a 6x7 camera, I guess a Mamiya or something
alike.
he used a plaubel makina, the 80/2.8 nikkor lens.
that is a cool book. nice use of color. i've been thinking that only
pretty recently have i been taking single pictures rather than one-frame
cinema. i definitely feel that my composition, framing, and especially
lighting have all been way more influenced by cinematography than straight
photography, and that book was really insightful to me in seeing my process.
photographers maybe a little more so now, but only because i'm aware of
these folks, whereas before i was very much trying to take pictures that
looked like what i was expecting.... and that as an american born in the
last 30 years, films are the mainstream visual aesthetic. OT, i think
that's why it's so hard to take street candids-- most people in the usa are
very aware of the power of photographic representation, far more sensitive
(sophisticated?) than say latin america or southeast asia.
that, of course, will change :(

cheers, happy shooting!
