You don't say where you're travelling, but don't forget really *really* good
insurance.

A friend of mine (Tony Sleep, who runs the filmscanner mailing list) knows a
pro photographer who has lost *every* piece of photo equipment - mostly
lighting kit - packed as hold baggage on each of *three separate* flights
out of LHR. This despite locked metal flight cases. Total cost so far is >
$15,000.

Of course it disappeared on outgoing flights en route to jobs, making the
loss far more expensive than just the equipment cost. It's a bloody
nightmare.
