Can anyone please recommend a suitable contact here in the UK for me to
approach to have my 1983 M4P + 50 f2 Summicron overhauled?

Besides dealers in London and Leica UK in ?Milton Keynes (I'll check), where
else have LUGgers taken their precious property?

Good luck to Rob Millard on his 2+months probation on the r/f system.  I've
long been a Nikon SLR user [still have F80], and the switch for me 6 months
back to all-manual everything takes time, I know.  It's like cooking with a
basic unassisted BBQ after years of mollycoddling with timers and
thermostats in the kitchen:  practice makes perfect.
